Located in the northwest of the Region of Murcia, the Yecla Appellation of Origin covers the region with the same name.
An area of wine tradition in which the Phoenicians already settled to grow vines and produce their own wines. A taste that followed with villages that later arrived in the area, such as the Romans or the Arabs.
The official recognition of the Appellation of Origin Yecla dates back to 1975, when the Ministry of Agriculture granted it this consideration. This supported the effort that wineries and winemakers in the area had been making for centuries while providing a stimulus for them to continue to improve procedures and that over time, it has meant that this appellation of origin has had high quality wines, recognized all over the world.
The producers of the Yecla Appellation of Origin are very active and have devoted much of their efforts to export which has led them to find markets on all continents and that 95% of their production is sold outside Spain.
Although there are many grape varieties grown in this area, all of them authorized by the Yecla Appellation of Origin, most wines are made from the Monastrell grape. This grape is the most abundant in the area and the one that has been best adapted to its orography and climate. A grape that has been used for centuries both for consumption and for the production of broths.
Other grape varieties that are cultivated in the area (and by extension widely used in wineries to produce wines) are the following: Syrah, Merlot and Petit Verdot, although they are not the only ones that we will find in their fields.
Hence, red, white, rosé and liqueur wines are produced in this area. A great variety with which producers want to respond in the best possible way to the needs of consumers.
Yecla Appellation of origin and Wineryon
The seal of the Yecla area is present in the wines we make at Wineryon. In our wineries we mainly use monastrell grapes. A grain with which we make Demuerte wines, to get high quality wines, a lot of aroma and exquisite taste.
The greatest representative of this bond with Yecla is, without a doubt, our Demuerte Black wine. A wine made only from Monastrell grapes and that is the essence of the local wines. To make it we have used grapes that have grown in old pre-phylloxeric franc standing strains that are over 50 years old. Very hard plants that withstand cold winters and hot summers well in this part of the country.
With its fruits we make reds of reddish colors, with high content of alcohol and with many evocations of red fruits, ripe and sweet.
In the case of Demuerte Black, a cherry red wine of high intensity, clean and bright in sight; soft and pleasant taste, reminiscent of jam and fruit. A wine whose aroma evokes toasted and spices such as paprika or cinnamon, among others.
At Wineryon we are very proud to belong to such an active Appellation of Origin and with so many centuries of tradition. An endorsement that helps us to bring new products to market and to dare to conquer new markets.
